How it works

A person, a place, a feeling or an occasion. Concrete details give better imagery.

Free verse, rhyming stanzas, a sonnet, a limerick or an acrostic.
Step 3
Polish it
Swap any word that isn't yours, or generate again for a different angle.
An AI poem generator for any occasion
This poem generator writes an original poem from a short description. Choose a form and it follows the rules of that form: fourteen lines and a closing couplet for a sonnet, five bouncy lines for a limerick, or the letters of a name running down the side for an acrostic. People use it for birthday and anniversary cards, toasts, classroom examples, social posts and simply to see a familiar feeling put into new words. Every poem is written fresh from your input, not pulled from an existing collection, so give it the details only you know and it will use them.
Which Poem Form Should You Choose?
Pick the form by the job the poem has to do. Free verse suits personal, reflective subjects such as grief, memory or a place you love, because it can follow natural speech. Rhyming stanzas work for cards, toasts and anything read aloud, since rhyme is easy to remember. A sonnet fits love and big turning points; its final couplet lands a conclusion. Limericks are for jokes, retirement cards and teasing a friend. Acrostics are great for names, classrooms and gifts, because the hidden word is part of the surprise.
Details That Make an AI Poem Feel Personal
Generic topics produce generic poems. Instead of 'a poem for my mom', try 'a poem for my mom, who taught me to swim at Lake Erie and still hums while she cooks'. Specific nouns, a place, a habit or a shared joke give the poem something real to hold.
You can also set the mood in plain words: 'gentle and funny', 'quiet and sad', 'proud'. If a line feels off, keep the rest and rewrite only that line yourself; small edits are what turn a generated poem into your poem.
Mistakes to Avoid
Don't force rhyme onto a serious subject if the rhymes start to feel silly; switch to free verse. Don't overload the prompt with ten ideas, because a poem about one moment is stronger than a poem about a whole life. Read the result aloud: if you stumble on a line, so will your audience.
Finally, if you want something in the spirit of a poet you admire, describe the qualities you like, such as 'short lines, nature images, plain words', rather than asking for a copy. This tool writes original poems and won't reproduce published ones.
Frequently asked questions
Is this poem generator free?
New visitors get free credits; signing in adds more. Each generation uses 1 credit.
Are the poems original?
Yes. Each poem is written from your input at the time you generate it. The tool is instructed not to reproduce existing published poems.
Can it write a poem with a specific rhyme scheme?
Choose 'Rhyming' or 'Sonnet' for a set rhyme scheme. You can also add a request like 'AABB rhyme' to your topic and the poem will try to follow it.
How do I make an acrostic poem of a name?
Select 'Acrostic' and put the name in your topic, for example 'Maya, my best friend who loves the ocean'. The first letters of the lines will spell the name.
Can I use the poem in a card or post?
Yes, you can use and edit the poems for cards, speeches and social posts. Editing a line or two to add your own details usually makes it land better.
