Ideogram 4.5: Release, Precise Editing, Pricing and Rankings

Updated 2026-10-09

Ideogram 4.5 is Ideogram's image model released on September 30, 2026, sold as "the most precise edit model". Its main promise is that you can edit the same image again and again without it slowly degrading – fewer pixel shifts, colour changes and texture artifacts across multi-turn edits. It runs in the Ideogram app, the Ideogram API, its MCP integration and on partner platforms. Launch-week reseller prices were about $0.03 per image at the lowest setting and $0.22 at the highest (2K).

Below is what is confirmed so far, what it costs, how it ranks in independent tests and who should use it.

What's new in Ideogram 4.5

Ideogram 4.0 (June 2026) was a general text-to-image model known for strong typography, with open weights. Version 4.5 keeps generation but is built around editing:

  • Precise edit: change one part of an existing image – a bag colour, a line of text on a sign – while the surrounding pixels are preserved instead of re-painted.
  • Less drift over many edits: Ideogram says 4.5 "reduces this drift, preserving details across multi-turn edits".
  • Edit at source resolution: Ideogram's demo edits a 4,016 × 6,016 photo (24.2 megapixels) without downscaling, and the edited crop keeps clean edges so it can be stitched back into the original.
  • Native 2K output: 2,048 px on the long edge at the top setting.
  • Four speeds: Turbo, Balanced, Quality and High – price follows the speed setting, not the resolution.

A note in the launch coverage said Ideogram plans to publish open weights for 4.5 later. As of October 9, 2026 nothing has been released, so treat that as a plan, not a fact.

Ideogram 4.5 pricing

Setting Approx. price per image (launch-week reseller rates)
Low $0.03
Medium $0.06
High (2K) $0.22

The $0.22 figure also shows up on Artificial Analysis for the 2K High configuration. Ideogram's own app uses its credit plans; confirm current prices on Ideogram's pricing page, because the precise-edit workload (big files, High setting, many passes) is the most expensive thing the model does.

How Ideogram 4.5 ranks

Artificial Analysis added Ideogram 4.5 (High) to its blind-vote image arenas in launch week:

Arena Rank Elo Votes
Text-to-image 34th of 167 1,014 2,247
Image editing 23rd 1,064 2,382

That is mid-table, and barely ahead of Ideogram 4.0 (1,011) on text-to-image. The leaders at the time were GPT Image 2.5 models and MAI-Image-2.6. Two caveats: the vote counts are small next to the leaders' 12,000–18,000, so the ranks can still move; and neither arena tests the one thing Ideogram is claiming – quality on the tenth edit of the same image.

Who should use Ideogram 4.5

Good fit:

  • product catalogues that need many colour or label variants of one photo;
  • translating or correcting text on signage and posters across a campaign;
  • restoring or retouching a large photo without repainting the parts that are fine.

Not the best fit:

  • you want the single best-looking image from one prompt – higher-ranked generators beat it on that today;
  • you work at small sizes and rarely edit the same image twice – Ideogram 4.0 or cheaper models will do.

The honest test is your own: take one of your images, run the same ten edits on Ideogram 4.5 and on your current tool, and compare turn ten.

How to use Ideogram 4.5

  1. Open Ideogram (app or API) and select the 4.5 model.
  2. To generate, write a prompt and pick a speed – Turbo for drafts, High for finals.
  3. To edit, upload your image, mark the area to change and describe the change in a short sentence ("make the bag dark green", "change the sign text to OPEN DAILY").
  4. Repeat edits one change at a time; check edges and faces after each pass.
  5. Export at full resolution.

Prompt quality still matters for both generation and edits. If you are stuck, our free AI image prompt generator turns a rough idea into a detailed prompt you can paste into Ideogram or any other image model.

FAQ

When was Ideogram 4.5 released? September 30, 2026, on Ideogram's model page, with access the same day in the app, API, MCP integration and through partner platforms.

Is Ideogram 4.5 free? It is a paid, hosted model. Ideogram's app has its own plans; API and reseller prices at launch were roughly $0.03–$0.22 per image depending on the setting.

Is Ideogram 4.5 open source? Not yet. Ideogram 4.0's weights are open, and Ideogram said it plans to release 4.5 weights, but nothing had been published as of October 9, 2026.

What is the difference between Ideogram 4.0 and 4.5? 4.0 is a general generator with strong typography; 4.5 adds precise, multi-turn editing at source resolution with less drift, plus native 2K output.

Is Ideogram 4.5 the best AI image generator? Not on current leaderboards: it ranked 34th for text-to-image and 23rd for editing on Artificial Analysis in launch week. Its strength is consistency across repeated edits, which those arenas don't measure.
