How it works

  1. Step 1

Tell it what you have (or don't)

Type ingredients in your fridge, a diet, a cuisine or a time limit. Leave it empty for a surprise.

  2. Step 2

    Pick a meal type

Dinner, lunch, breakfast, a quick meal under 20 minutes, vegetarian or a budget meal.

  3. Step 3

    Choose one and cook

You get 3 different dishes with ingredients and steps. Not feeling any? Generate again.

The fastest way to answer “what should I eat?”

Deciding what to cook is often harder than cooking it. A random meal generator takes the decision off your plate: instead of scrolling recipe sites, you get three concrete dishes at once, each with the main ingredients, a rough cooking time and two or three steps so you know if it fits tonight. Add what you already have – say chicken thighs, rice and a lime – and the ideas are built around it, which also helps you use up food before it goes off. Pick a meal type for breakfast, lunch, a quick weeknight dinner, a vegetarian meal or a cheap one. The tool is free and works on your phone in the kitchen.

Random meal ideas from what's in your fridge

The most useful way to use a random dinner generator is to start from ingredients. Type two or three things you want to use up, for example 'ground beef, peppers, tortillas' or 'eggs, spinach, leftover potatoes'. The generator keeps those at the center and fills in common pantry items around them.

If you also add a limit such as '30 minutes' or 'one pan', the three suggestions stay inside it. When none of them fits, generate again: every run is a new random draw, so you can keep going until one makes you hungry.

Diets, allergies and picky eaters

Write restrictions in plain words: 'vegetarian', 'no nuts', 'gluten free', 'no mushrooms, kids eating'. The generator is instructed never to suggest an ingredient that breaks a restriction you name. For a real allergy, always check the labels of the products you buy – an idea list can't know what's inside a specific sauce or stock cube.

For picky eaters, ask for familiar food ('simple, kid friendly') and let them pick one of the three. Giving people a choice between three options ends more dinner debates than one suggestion.

Breakfast, lunch, budget and quick meals

The meal option changes what you get. Breakfast gives morning dishes, lunch leans to things you can pack or make fast, and 'Quick (under 20 min)' keeps every idea to a short cooking time. 'Cheap / budget' favors low-cost staples like beans, eggs, rice, pasta and seasonal vegetables.

Use it for a week of meals too: run it five times with different options, keep the ideas you like, and write one shopping list from the 'You need' lines.

Random dinner wheel vs. a meal generator

A food spinner or dinner wheel picks from a list you typed yourself, so it only works if you already know the options. A generator like this one invents fresh options and tells you how to make them. Many households use both: a wheel for 'which takeout place', and the generator for 'what can we cook with what we have'.

Frequently asked questions

Is the random meal generator free?

Yes. It's free to use without an account; a light hourly limit only stops automated abuse.

Can it make a meal from ingredients I already have?

Yes. List the ingredients in the box, and the three ideas are built around them, adding only common pantry items.

Does it give full recipes?

It gives the dish, cooking time, key ingredients and two or three short steps – enough to decide and cook simple dishes. For exact quantities, look up a full recipe for the dish you picked.

Can I use it for breakfast or lunch?

Yes. Choose Breakfast or Lunch in the meal menu, or Quick for anything under about 20 minutes.

Is it safe for allergies and special diets?

The generator avoids ingredients that break the restrictions you type, but it can't see product labels. Always check packaged ingredients if someone has an allergy.
