How it works

  1. Step 1

    Choose your photo or signature

Pick the scanned passport photo or signature from your phone or computer (JPG or PNG).

  2. Step 2

Set the size for what you upload

Photo: keep 50 KB and 170 px max side (about 130 × 170 px). Signature: type 20 KB and 230 px max side (about 230 × 75 px).

  3. Step 3

    Check the result and download

The tool shows the final KB and pixel size. Download the JPG and upload it on the TNPSC portal.

Photo and signature sizes for TNPSC forms

TNPSC applications (One-Time Registration and exams such as Group 4 / CCSE-IV) only accept a JPG photo and a JPG signature within fixed limits. For the Group 4 2026 application, published guides list the photo at 20–50 KB, 3.5 × 4.5 cm (130 × 170 pixels), colour with a white background and your name and the date printed at the bottom, and the signature at 10–20 KB, 230 × 75 pixels, signed in blue or black ink. This compressor is set to those numbers: it keeps the highest JPEG quality that still fits the KB limit and scales the image to the maximum pixel size you enter. Always compare with the notification of the exam you apply for – TNPSC can change the rules.

TNPSC photo size: 20–50 KB, 130 × 170 pixels

Crop the photo to a passport shape first (taller than wide, face centred, plain white background), then load it here with the default 50 KB and 170 px settings. The result lands just under 50 KB at about 130 × 170 pixels, which is inside the 20–50 KB range. If your result is below 20 KB, the source photo was too small or too dark – use a clearer scan or a sharper phone photo and run it again. Keep the name-and-date strip visible at the bottom; compressing does not remove it.

TNPSC signature size: 10–20 KB, 230 × 75 pixels

Sign inside a box of about 6 × 2 cm on plain white paper with a blue or black pen, photograph it in daylight and crop tightly around the signature. In the tool type 20 into the KB box and 230 into the max side box. A wide, tightly cropped signature becomes roughly 230 × 75 pixels and usually stays well inside 10–20 KB. If the file is under 10 KB, scan at a higher resolution before compressing.

Why the TNPSC portal rejects a photo

Most upload errors come from three things: the file is bigger than the limit (often a phone photo of 2–5 MB), the format is PNG or HEIC instead of JPG, or the pixel size is far from what the form expects. This page fixes all three in one go – it outputs JPG, caps the KB and caps the pixel size. If the portal still refuses the file, check the exact limits in your exam notification and enter them here.

Private by design

Your photo and signature are ID documents. The compression runs in your browser with the canvas API; nothing is uploaded to our server, and the image is gone when you close the tab. That also means it works on a slow mobile connection once the page has loaded.
